Garlaige Shitadel

Garbage Shitadel

Garlaige Citadel in 2004 wasn’t a really fun place to be. With only 2 months of battle experience, a lot of us still have no idea what to do. Not only that, we also have a bunch of parties not knowing where to level up. Campsitarus wasn’t around and there wasn’t a Wiki to look up. Japanese wouldn’t talk so what do we do? We all camp at one spot waiting for bats to spawn.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people still remember players making/trucking in a lot of gil through selling “Raise”. 2boxing nor Power Level was available back then. A typical “Raise” would cost from 1000gil to 2500gil. A lot of Japanese players would shout in Yutanga Jungle, selling Raises for that price knowing not a lot of people set their Home Point in Kazham and most party would not even have a White Mage with complete spell. It was brutal.

So why that many raises? Remember Square-Enix made the changes that monster would disappear after people zoned out? Before they would not despawn. This means… well when a party zone out because they pulled 2 bats, well those 2 bats will now travel from the hallway back to where they were found, which most of the time pass by parties who are also pulling bats. Well… instead of fighting your 1 bat, now you have 2 other bats from the party that zoned out!

Hence the name:

Garbage Shitadel

Sadly, a lot of us needed the Raise, and would offer these Japanese players a ton of money just to cast their Lv25 spell.

Money was very hard-earned. I remember farming crawlers outside Windurst for Silk Thread, and a stack would sell for 10k gil. There wasn’t even airship for a lot of us, because none of us are high-level enough to even go fight Shadow Lord… well, that means every night, I Chocobo back to Windurst, farm, and Chocobo back to Jeuno for parties.

Life was tough!
